Managing the root and admin user password in Access Manager 1.3

The 'root' user and 'admin' user password are critical to Access Managers operation. So being able to manage and maintain them is vitally important. Here we have methods to reset them from the VM Centre menu and the admin web interface.

How to reset 'admin' user password

The admin is the main administrative user required to access the web based admin interface. You can reset the admin account password from VM Centre, here's how to do it.

1. First log into VMCentre, we then need to stop the Nervepoint service before the admin password can be reset.
2. Select 'Settings' from the left menu.
3. Scroll down and locate the 'Nervepoint Access Manager' service at click 'Stop' the button will change to 'Start' this indicates that the service has been stopped.

4. Select 'Users' from the left menu.
5. For the 'admin' user click "Reset Password' and then set and confirm the new password and hit 'Reset'.
6. Now, start the 'Nervepoint Access Manager' service from the 'Settings' menu by pressing the 'Start' button.

You will then be able to log into the admin portal with the password you set.

How to reset the 'root' user password

The root user password is used to log into the VM Centre administrative interface. The password can be changed to a new password from VM Centre or if you have forgotten the root user password, you can reset it from the administration web interface.

To reset the root users password if you have forgotten it:

1. Click on the Identities page and select the vm (VM) connector from the "Directory" drop down menu.
2. Select the 'root' user, this will display the user details at the bottom of the page.

3. Click "Reset Password" on the right side of the page. A window will appear asking you to provide a new password, firstly  uncheck the "Force password change at next login?" option if it is enabled, then enter your new password and click "Reset password".
4. You will then see a password reset confirmation box appear. Click Close.

The root user password will now have been changed.

Please Note -  The vm connector feature is there so you can easily reset the root user password if you have forgotten it. Therefore the "Reset Password" is the only feature designed to work with it.

If you wish to change the root user password, this can be done from VM Centre.

1. Log into VM Centre with your current root user password
2. Select 'Users' from the left menu.
3. Click 'Change Password' for the root user.
4. Confirm the old password and then set a new root user password, following the password requirements. Hit 'Change' to confirm the password change.

The root user password will now have been changed.
